Crafted of 18k yellow gold and deep red, foiled, table-cut garnets that alternate between flashing almost black, and flashing brightly and whitely reflective with motion. The stones have a darkly glowing effect rather than a colorful one; due to their blood-red color and their mirror-flash from their flat-cut surfaces. While the garnets are softly set in rub-over collet settings, the wide, round symmetrical bezel in which they have been placed, exhibits a notched or crimped edge decoration; a hallmark of many "Iberian" jewels produced in this era.

The bifurcating construction of the shoulders is covered with a golden leaf-like flourish that gives way into dense scoring partially down the sturdy shank. There are two faded and indecipherable hallmarks to the shanks' outside, more than likely a maker's mark and a symbol of the town in which it was manufactured. A mysterious detail found in this piece, and other similar examples, are the roman numerals one can find inscribed on the shank's interior. In this case, the numerals reads "XX," however they vary from piece to piece, and their original intention has unfortunately lost to time. Another odd little detail is how the central part of the bezel is affixed by a small rivet-like fixture, something seen easily when looking at the ring's verso, and something that leads the central gem to actually rotate when moved!

The craftsmanship of this piece is wonderful, full of slow-made, old-world, hand-made charm. A very romantic & striking ring, with lots of presence on the hand. Circa 1750.

It is a size 9-9.25 and in excellent antique condition with wear commensurate with age.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Returns and exchanges are accepted within 3 days of delivery date.
