A very unusual Georgian Rococo trilogy ring, most likely Continental in origin, due not to the conventional Rococo formula, so to speak, (which includes features such as the three-stone design, a scrolled and notched shank, and a rayed verso;) but to the highly atypical large grape-colored central ruby cabochon. It looks like pure jewelry candy. Stones seen in these rings are generally faceted, by and large. "Rare for this period is the use of cabochon stones" writes Chadour. Kindly see the fifth picture for a reference in the Koch Collection dated to the "3rd quarter of the 18th century." Two foiled, sparkling rose cut diamonds flank this curious choice. In excellent antique condition. It is a size 6.5 and weighs 7 grams.
