Antique Art Deco French Milk Tooth Signet Ring in Silver and 18k Rose Gold, Baby Tooth, Sentimental, 1900's

An unusual antique Art Deco signet ring, rectangular in shape, modeled in silver and featuring a centrally set milk tooth. Produced in France at the begining of the 19th century, this ring has a wonderful geometric and architectural quality to it. The structural and recessed shoulders lead into a wide plain shank. The tiny milk tooth, set open back in 18k rose gold, is positioned raised atop a matching rose gold platform--a design that not only serves to frame and highlight the precious childhood memento, but also contributes to the interlocking, stepped structure of the ring. It is in excellent antique condition. The silver has been left unpolished, and there is a small chip to the upper right side of the tooth under magnification. There is a small, faint vertical line to the shank that evidences a past resizing. French in origin, with a trio of hard to decipher, minute hallmarks, including the boar's head. Size 6.5

These jewels, contrary to some misconception, are not mourning jewelry at all, but rather sentimental in nature. They were commissioned as a celebration of survival and childhood.
