Darkly sparkly: A scarce mid-1700’s seven stone Baroque diamond cluster finger ring shaped as a bow. Most likely Dutch in origin, (or perhaps French or Flemish). It’s an exquisite example, with a gorgeous design—the diamonds are in silver rub over settings, set closed back, with their sharp rose cut facets glittering like mirrors. The bow became a corner stone of Baroque fashion and aesthetic, seen in almost every facet of material decorative culture of the time-- being incorporated into the majority of the era's clothing and serving as a base to pin medals and jewels. Eventually and naturally, bow themed jewels emerged, seen in the form of large, resplendent and bejeweled brooches, as well this finger ring's classic seven stone formation.

The diamonds are particularly dark and incredibly chunky, and are more than likely to have been pitch backed, or have been tinted to mask their darker inclusions. Unusual and oh so mesmerizing. These early rose cut diamond rings are so special—with lots of history, character & charisma; originally designed to twinkle by candle light. The back is fluted, or what is typically called basket set, but this one is more delightfully asymmetrically shaped as rays of sun! The shank and verso are crafted of 18k yellow gold. Sizes in at 9.5, and weighs in at 3 grams. In excellent antique condition. For dark romance...
