An exquisite and very finely made Georgian era betrothal ring, circa 1780, in the form of two dendritic agate teardrop-shaped hearts in perfect union; the pair of stones hugging, embracing and butting up to each other as close as possible, surmounted by a halo of small glittery diamonds. While the gems have been set in silver, as was typical for the era, their golden closed backs are notably chubby and individually cupped--creating a deep & charming cleft like a peach to the verso of the bezel. The high quality of craftsmanship of this finger ring is evidenced by how beautifully and comfortably the ring wears on the hand, the bezel constructed with a convex design to mold to the shape of one's finger. In excellent, all original condition. At one point, the hugging agates would have been crowned, a statement to the power and triumph of love, though they are now unadorned. The only remaining evidence left of this popular coronet design now in the present day is a matching pair of grooves atop each heart. It is a size 5.25 and weighs 1.7 grams.
