A Georgian era pendant, circa 1800, comprised of foiled, flat-cut garnets arranged in the shape of a Maltese cross. The gems flash a range of juicy cherry and raspberry reds, with their foil backings providing a distinct reflective, watery depth. They are framed by cut down collet settings and capped with rounded closed backs, each crafted of 9k rose gold. It is in excellent untouched antique condition with zero repairs or imperfections of note. The pendant measures 1 inch in both height and width.

According to "Georgian Jewelry" by Dawes and Collins, this particular cross configuration was popularized by Lady Emma Hamilton, Lord Nelson's mistress, who performed charitable works for the Maltese at the end of the 18th century during a time when they were experiencing an invasion by France. "What started out as a wearable medal for good works quickly became a fashionable pendant worn by English women," they comment.
