Antique Georgian Mourning Sepia Urn Ring with Macerated Hair and Black Enamel Band in 18k Gold, Neo-classical, Memorial, Sentimental, 1700's
A wonderful late 1700's sepia Georgian mourning ring depicting an urn and a weeping willow, both painted in neutral shades of gray, black and hints of reddish brown. The urn is placed on a ground of macerated hair "dirt"-- such a fantastic detail. Constructed of gold, it features a black enameled shank with the details of the deceased, and reflects the trend of the time for a large, elongated bezel. Being navette-shaped, this piece and has ample finger coverage and a strong presence; commanding attention and catching the eye in what is both a personal and public declaration of grief. Infinitely sentimental and special. A crisp and immaculate example of a sepia miniature. The ring is in excellent condition with only minimal loss to the enamel. It is a size 8.25.
