An exceptionally and exceedingly pretty late 18th century Georgian baroque dangle pendant; constructed of a lacey webbing of golden openwork, framing & connecting a network of silver-set, rose-cut diamonds that have been couched in floral and foliate termini.

At the center sits a very large, very unusual and distinctive diamond with tons of character: its oval irregular shape nestled perfectly in a custom-made cut down collet setting that conforms to each jagged, unique edge. Even more interestingly, what first appears as a long deep crack across the top of this gorgeous, flashing central diamond reveals itself, under magnification, to actually be the demarcation between two diamonds fitted together to form the oval, teardrop shape. For sure one of the wonkiest, most distinctive and idiosyncratic old diamonds I’ve enjoyed eyeballing–the moodier and weirder the better, in my opinion.

The reverse of the pendant is as thoughtfully designed as the front: wrought in coppery hued rose gold with each floral termini cupped and slightly concave, the small red stone drop left open-backed for maximum brightness of color, and the thickly scalloped, rayed versos of the central diamond as well as the pearl that punctuates the dangle’s end. This lovely piece, full of curls, soft edges, and mirrored diamond flashes, measures 1.5 inches in length, excluding the bale, and it weighs 4 grams.
