Antique Georgian Portuguese Small Oval Moss Agate and Chrysoberyl Halo Fichu Pin in Silver circa 1800, Iberian, Portugal, Brooch, Lace Pin, Shawl
Antique Georgian Portuguese Small Oval Moss Agate and Chrysoberyl Halo Fichu Pin in Silver circa 1800, Iberian, Portugal, Brooch, Lace Pin, Shawl
A softly dreamy small silver brooch fitted with a halo of chrysoberyl stones flashing their trademark golden light green hue, and a central oval slice of moss agate set upon a slightly silvery-reflective backing which beautifully highlights the dark green filaments suspended in the stone.
This fichu, or lace pin, originates from Portugal with the thin golden beaded frame between the gem surround and agate center being a hallmark of Portuguese craftsmanship between the late 1700s and eary 1800s; as well as the use of chrysoberyl, as it was a very popular material at the time being imported in majority from the “New World” (especially Brazil, in this case).
In excellent antique condition. It weighs 6.7 grams and measures one inch in length and 3/4 of an inch in width. Circa 1800. A beautiful and fairly unusual combination of gems that produce a lovely earthy organic feel.
