A Georgian Rococo half hoop featuring a substantial table-cut foiled amethyst in the loveliest, dusky, dusty shade of lilac blue; flanked on either side by two small diamonds. All three gemstones are set in silver and with their closed back settings and the ring's shank crafted of 14k gold. The verso of the amethyst beautifully is rayed, or basket set. Small "c" curls connect the bezel to grooved, notched shoulders which terminate in a pointed, floral flourish leading into to a simple gold shank. The desirable small, architectural details of this piece's design, which firmly place it within the stylistic blueprint of Rococo finger rings from Western Europe in the last half of the 18th century, have all been very crisply preserved and remain exceptionally well formed after hundreds of years. Circa 1770. A wonderfully weighty, solidly and well constructed example in immaculate, untouched condition.
