Antique Georgian Banded Agate and Rock Crystal Mourning Charm in 18k Gold, Pendant, Memorial, Memento Mori

A small and unusual late Georgian mourning charm, set with a halo of banded agate cabochons and a central, silver foiled round quartz gemstone. The quartz is bezel set, flat-topped and beautifully faceted at the edges—a design which serves as a direct nod to earlier Stuart crystals. It is modeled in 18k yellow gold and features an inscription dated 1823 to the reverse. An interesting piece as its materials and form can be seen as representative of a stylistic transition between several popular themes present in Georgian and Victorian mourning jewelry.

Executed in a diminutive scale, this little Georgian mourning pendant measures only 16 mm. At this small size, it is really more a charm than a pendant. In excellent antique condition.
