An untouched & pristine Georgian era mourning ring, rare in the unmarred white enamel that covers the rounded, convex shank; as well as the flawless coffin shaped crystal bezel that studs the front.

Under the coffin, a stretch of tightly straight brown hair--still laying flat, prim and very orderly to this day.

The white color of the shank indicates the status of the deceased as unmarried or very young and alludes to pureness and innocence. The enamel, intact, solid and very finely done serves as the background for capital golden letters spelling out the deceased's details.

There are several different flourishes in between the words of dedication on the shank, which is unusual and unique as more often than not in these examples there are typically maybe one or repeated motifs.

The rituals of mourning, and thus their accoutrements as well—such as special darkened garb, dedicated jewelry, and other codified behavior; reached a peak of popularity and social acceptance during the 18th century. Specialized jewelers advertised mourning rings made quickly and with precision, while collecting and commissioning them came into vogue in well-heeled social circles.

A rare survivor, and a historic piece that softly emanates a serenity and tranquility, with craftsmanship indicating American origins.

Well made & modeled in supremely rich 22k gold.  In immaculate condition. Weighing in at a solid 3.2 grams and a 7 in size.
