Antique Victorian Engraved Puffy Heart Padlock Pendant with Hair Locket Back c. 1870 in 15k Gold, Charm, Sentimental, Mourning, Floral, Ivy, Flowers, 1800's
Antique Victorian Engraved Puffy Heart Padlock Pendant with Hair Locket Back c. 1870 in 15k Gold, Charm, Sentimental, Mourning, Floral, Ivy, Flowers, 1800's
A deeply engraved mid-Victorian sentimental heart-shaped padlock pendant, modeled in bright, true yellow 15k gold with a puffy, hollow form. The front of the piece displays a central flower surrounded by radiating tendrils and ivy leaves that echo its ornate design; with all engraved forms very sharply and finely scored. To the reverse, a small locket compartment filled with a tender curl of blonde hair. Ivy, symbolic of fidelity and devotion, alongside the personal memento held within, indicate and underscore the sentimental nature of the piece. Circa 1860-1870. Originally intended as a closure on a bracelet chain.
In excellent and untouched working condition, with a few very minor dents alongside the seam. The glass compartment, once able to open, is now stuck in place—all the better to guide the precious corporeal memento from the past, in my opinion! It weighs a delightfully solid 5.9 grams; measuring 1.25 inches in length, & 3/4 of an inch in width at its widest point.
