Antique Victorian Ridged Dome Milk Tooth Ring in 18k Gold, Milk Teeth, Baby Teeth, Sentimental, Love Token

A precious, sentimental Victorian ring modeled as a ridged dome, reminiscent of a beehive, in 18k yellow gold. It is studded centrally with a flush set, open backed, human baby tooth. The applied shoulders are modeled as mirrored fleurs de lys motifs, leading into a grooved shank. The bright gold is a wonderful feature of this piece, and glows a warm, satisfying, high karat yellow and is free of scuffs or abrasions. The tooth conforms to the shape of the dome, and is smooth to the touch. There is a bit of discoloration and a tiny chip to its base, leading to a crack that runs throughout. This ring is in very fine, wearable antique condition. Size 6

These jewels, contrary to some misconception, are not mourning jewels at all, but rather sentimental in nature. They were commissioned as a celebration of survival in a time when infant mortality was high.

Return shipping must be insured and will be the buyer's responsibility. Items must be received in the same condition as sold/shipped.
