Antique Victorian Salmon Pink Mano Figa Fist Pendant w/ Articulated Charm Connector Capped in 18k Gold, Hand, Good Luck, Grand Tour, Evil Eye

Why are Victorian hands so incredibly and enduringly fascinating to collectors and perusers alike of old jewelry? Figural, self-referential, metaphysical and absolutely loaded with varied & myriad ancient symbologies and traditions, depictions of hands in jewelry have historically been considered amuletic and talismanic in nature. 

This example, a 19th century carved coral fist, or "mano figa," borrows from Italian folklore and is an apotropaic gesture that symbolizes fertility, and wards against the evil eye and those who may wish the wearer ill. 

There is double the amuletic protection in both the form and material of this pendant, as coral is a substance typically associated with good luck. 

The top is capped in 18k gold, while the shapely arm grips a "D" shaped jump hoop ring, ready to act as a charm connector and hang the petite pendant of your choosing. Both the bale and D-ring test at 10k gold as well! 

An all original and genuinely antique example in a market recently flooded by reproductions of these iconic hands. 

In excellent antique condition. It measures 1 inch in height excluding the bale, and weighs 2 grams.

Returns and exchanges are accepted within 3 days of delivery date. Item must be shipped within one week of my written confirmation of the return or exchange and its subsequent details. Return shipping must be insured and will be the buyer's responsibility. Items must be received in the same condition as sold/shipped. Any customs/tariffs/import fees/taxes incurred in the purchase are similarly the buyer's responsibility.
